About the Valley of Rocks Hotel, Lynton

Ragged Jack, Devil's Cheesering and Castle Rock, all names of strange rock formations, form the Valley of the Rocks after which our hotel is named. The valley is a pleasant walk from the hotel which is perched high on the cliff top above the fishing village of Lynmouth. This charming hotel is situated on Lynton's main street, commanding panoramic views of the bay from its sloping gardens. Named "Little Switzerland of England" by the Victorians, the lovely cliff top village of Lynton is Devon at its very best! Abundant in Victorian architecture, art and craft shops and quaint tearooms, it boasts magnificent views of the dramatic coastline.

The car park, which has limited space, is located on the side of the building (no reservations taken). If these spaces are full, parking permits are issued at reception on arrival, for free parking in a nearby public car park.

How to get there

By Car:

From the A361, Barnstaple direction, turn right at the roundabout onto the A399 to Blackmoor Gate. Turn right at the Station Hotel onto the A39 and follow signs to Lynton. At Barbrook, turn left up Station Hill into Lynton. Turn right at the main High Street and continue past the Town Hall. The hotel is on the left before the church on Lee Road. By Train:

The nearest railway station is Barnstaple, 25 miles away, served by trains from Exeter. (Rail enquiries to 08457 484950).

National Express:

Services to Barnstaple (National Express enquiries to 08705 808080).

By Bus:

First Bus number 309 or 310 from Barnstaple to Lynton stop outside the Town Hall, 100 yards from the hotel. Both services operate daily except Sunday. (Enquiries to 01271 376524).
